    Eva,

I guess I misunderstood your instructions. Here's the list

    1. Tell you why I friended you.
    2. Associate you with something - a song, a color, a photo, etc.
    3. Tell you something I like about you.
    4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
    5. Associate you with a character.
    6. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
    7. Tell you my favorite user picture of yours.
    8. In return, you must post this in your LJ.

Another infrequent post, but I'd thought I'd give those of you on my friends list an update on what's been happening....

    Got married on 18 August...

I and my lovely wife will be leaving for the UK tomorrow on our honeymoon. It will be my first extended visit to Europe since I spent 3 days in Amsterdam 10 years ago. Along with the sights in and around London, we'll be visiting Dover Cliffs, Stonehenge, Cambridge, and Liverpool, along with days spent in Dublin, Ireland and Edinburgh, Scotland. Will return a few days before Autumn Quarter begins where I teach...

First weekend in August went to my 25th high school reunion. Goodly number of people showed up (about 30) given the change in venue (was hosted by a classmate when the original venue went out of business). Was good seeing some people I hadn't seen in a while (most I had seen at the 20th, which I attended). Some people I wanted to see didn't attend; however, all the people I didn't want to see didn't show up. All in all, nice, quiet reunion...

Finally, just found out about 2 weeks ago that my lone surviving grandparent (my mom's mom) was placed in a nursing home (or whatever term they use today). She had been living with my Aunt (my mom's sister) for roughly 15 years. I saw her in June when I visited for her 93rd birthday, and she was starting to show signs of decline (still mentally sharp, but spending more and more time bedridden). It appears that now she becoming more disoriented (hallucinations, bad dreams, and difficulties in remembering people and events). I'm saddened, to say the least...

Sorry to end this on such a downer. Hope everyone else is enjoying the rest of the summer...

    Update
I haven't been writing at blog over at blogger - Oikoumene - because I haven't found the time to deal with (well over a year). Or rather, the minute I think it might be a good time to post something, I talk myself out of it.

Which is funny as I read other people's blogs almost daily, and am employed in a profession where being able to express oneself is important (I teach at a community college and occasionally at other colleges). It's not that I can't express myself - I can do so quite well in a classroom environment, one-on-one with students and colleagues, or in meetings. It's when it comes to expressing myself in writing I tend to lose confidence to some degree.

Maybe it's due to my propensity towards over-analysis and/or criticism regarding my writing skills. As such, I find writing to be burdensome and often not worth the effort (at least in the context of writing casually - I can muster up enough fortitude to write something if I'm required to do so).

In any event, I found the time today only because I just finished grading 55 exams that I promised my students I would return to them by tomorrow (Friday). And I felt like writing for the sake of writing. Maybe mental fatigue acts as a de-inhibtor (un-inhibitor?) for me.

I haven't posted anything lately in my Oikoumene blog because 1) I went out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday; 2) I returned with the flu which laid me out for several days (and I'm still recovering); 3) I've been swamped at work (teaching classes, grading, creating exams, answering student emails, presiding over student presentations, etc.) - it's the last week of the quarter and finals are next week. Physically, I feel exhausted - I should probably be at home resting. I'll just be glad when this quarter is over - it will give me some time to properly take care of myself.

For those interested, you can check out my weblog Oikoumene. So far, not much commentary - hopefully I'll be able to add more in the near future.
